Hi Louise! After 1 year, I have finally finished my course on MOA last week and I want to join your chapter. I live in Burnaby and I am currently looking for work around this area or even beyond. Recently though I noticed that the announcement for the Aug.4 meeting at RCH is not posted anymore at the MOA website, has the chapter 17 meeting been moved to September? Thank you and I look forward to joining the New West chapter.

Hi Ashley I am the Extension Chair in charge of the Members-At-Large as well as the Past-President of Chapter 17 New Westminster. You must be soooooo looking forward to graduation in September. The MOAA has a mandate of education and networking - both ,professional and social.

Regarding MOA meetings you have two choices: 1) The closest Chapter to you is the New Westminster Chapter and you are more than welcome to join us. We usually meet the first Wednesday of each month September - June at the Sherbrooke Centre on the RCH property. We have a speaker for one hour and the remainder of the time is our business meeting. September 8th we are planning not to have a speaker and just having a pot luck/ appetizer night to socialize after the summer break and meet new members. 2)You would be able to join as a Member-At-Large and receive information via email/phone/fax or snail mail as to what is happening in the organization. You would be more than welcome to attend for the speakers at any Chapter and of course attending Conference is also open to you.

Hopefully this has been helpful. Please email me with any further questions. Regards Louise

I have been in school for the last 71/2 months and will be graduating in September 2010 with a diploma as a medical office assistant. I would really like to join a chapter close to me. I live in Abbotsford, B.C.-would it be possible for someone to recommend to me which chapter I should join and give me a bit more information on the association of medical office assistants of BC?

Hello Laura-Theresa: I know there is not a Chapter in your area, but you can still become a member of MOAA! Louise Kowalenko is our Extension Chair and helps our Members-at-Large - these are members who are in your situation - want to be members but do not have a Chapter in their area. Louise's contact information is on this website under Board Members. Please do not hesitate to contact her about becoming a member. You may also contact me at anytime you have questions. I hope this information has helped you and you become a member of this wonderful organization!

I am currently working on my MOA w/Unit Clerk specialty at AOL in Kamloops. I will be completed in October. I was interested in becoming a member but I didn't see a chapter for Kamloops. I just want to make sure that is correct before choosing to become a member-at-large when I complete training. I would rather become a member of a chapter as a student but the closest I found was Kelowna and that quite a drive... any thoughts?

Chapter One - you should be so proud of yourselves! What a fabulous Conference! Speakers were great! Maureen your sister brought back many memories for me! It was wonderful to see old friends, the USA group and make new friends. The atmosphere was so welcoming - I am sure everyone enjoyed themselves! Congratulations to all the first timers at Conference! We hope to see you again! It was great to see so many Members-at-Large! I can hardly wait for Prince George! I am very proud to say I am an MOA and part of the MOA Association of BC! As the Prince George's T-shirts said - MOA's ROCK!!

Mary Jo, that was a fantastic conference. Renewed old friendships, enjoyed the wine and BBQ party. Speakers were great. The setting was wonderful. Took a leisurely drive back home with old time buddy (Susan Lesko). We go back as far as 1966 when I first joined MOAA.of B.C. Chapter #1 and then I moved to Valley and joined Abbotsford and then Maple Ridge and now I am a member at LARGE. I must say MOAA of B.C. has not lost the comraderie that I knew so well, years ago.

Please don't hesitate to contact any of those listed on there and perhaps you could attend one of the Chapter meetings closest to you.
